ABOUT ME
Hi, my name is Erin and I teach in a structured autism classroom in Phoenix, AZ. I have taught k-5 autism classrooms at varying functioning levels. The 2015-16 school year begins my sixth year of teaching. Prior to teaching, I worked as a private practice music therapist for many years. As a music therapist, I worked with a variety of children with developmental disabilities, but focused primarily on children with autism. I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy from Willamette University and a Master of Education degree in Special Education from Plymouth State University.
I love teaching and working with students on the autism spectrum. My classroom follows a structured teaching model and I utilize a variety of evidence based strategies in my teaching. I have often described my teaching and therapeutic philosophies as "eclectic," as I love learning about and implementing different treatment strategies, teaching models and curriculum. I believe all children are different and having a big bag of tricks makes it easier for me to reach a variety of students. I think my therapy background has made me an unique teacher, as I tend to take a more holistic and therapeutic approach to my classroom. I have high expectations for all my kiddos and truly believe students will rise or fall to your expectations of them.
